TRANSFORMATIONAL CENTER
Addiction and substance abuse are very complex conditions that many people have to manage every day. With the constant bombardment of external stressors and our fast-paced society, there is little time or place for relief. The Chicago Transformational Center provides a place of relief and community, aiding those struggling with addiction on a better path to recovery. This project's design intent was to foster a tranquil and engaging center for personal transformation, emphasizing biophilic connection. The use of naturally occurring materials, an abundance of greenery, daylighting, and duplicate garden atriums create a sanctuary for awareness and refuge.
LIGHT, VENTILATION, & NATURE
Two large atriums allow light and ventilation to penetrate deep into the core of the building. The southern garden atrium gives occupants direct connection to nature. The norther atrium enhances social connection with access to the facility concourse.
NATURALLY OCCURRING MATERIALS
The use of naturally occurring materials is a natural analogue to enhance occupant connection with nature and as a result this helps to reduce stress.
